Morning: Water Pavilion (Oporto city park) - Museum of contemporary art in Serralves
- After breakfast, we'll start our guided tour of the Oporto city park, visiting the water pavilion. This is an emblematic building that seeks to materialize the illusion of being suspended in the air. It was inaugurated at Expo 98 in Lisbon and later transferred to the awarded Oporto city park. It is a thematic building dedicated to environmental issues.
- The next visit is to Serralves museum and park. Serralves is a museum of reference in the Iberian and international panorama. It was projected by the winner of the Pritziker Award the renowed architect Siza Vieira. The Museum’s core goals are the constitution of a representative collection of Portuguese and international contemporary art. Let´s move on to the elegant park of Serralves. Phaidon's book The Gardener’s Garden ranks Serralves gardens among the most notable in the world. It was commissioned by the Count of Vizela to the architect Jacques Gréber in 1932, and is characterized by a modernist landscaping of French influence.
Afternoon: Marta Ortigão Sampaio House Museum - Soares dos Reis National Museum
- We restarted our guided tour by the Marta Ortigão Sampaio museum house, which hosts a very rich collection that reflects the bourgeois environment of the 1st half of the 20th century. Highlights include paintings by Aurélia de Sousa and Sofia de Sousa, traditional and erudite jewellery from the 17th to the 20th centuries, furniture and other decorative arts.
- At the end of our daily tour we will visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, founded in 1833 by the king D. Pedro IV. It was the first art museum in Portugal. In its beautiful and functional facilities we can admire Portuguese painting from the 19th and 20th centuries. Pieces of art of romanticism, naturalism and many of the masterpieces of Soares dos Reis, the famous author of Desterrado.
