Morning: Oporto - Coimbra
We take the morning to explore the University of Coimbra and its most emblematic sites. Visit to the Paço da Escola, where the famous tower is located but also the Joanina library, one of the highlights of the baroque in Portugal, the Royal Palace, and the Chapel of St Michael, with its majestic tubular organ. We walk under the Porta Férrea and discover the remaining buildings that constitute this pole of the oldest University in Portugal.
Afternoon: Coimbra - Oporto
We return to the University to descend downtown, through narrow streets and steep stairs like that of Quebra-Costas. Before these staircases, we pass by the Sé Velha square. It is on the Cathedral staircase, a 12th century building, that the emblematic monumental serenade takes place each year. This is the beginning of the city's biggest academic festival – a Queima das Fitas (burning of ribbons). We continue to the Praça do Comércio. After tasting some of the traditional pastries of this region, we visit the Church of Santa Cruz, where the tombstones of the first two Portuguese kings of are located.
