Amarante – Princess of Tâmega
85€
per personLocated on the banks of the Tâmega River, Amarante is a charming town. With the Serra do Marão dominating the landscape, a visit to the land that São Gonçalo has chosen to live on is a must. The convent of São Gonçalo is one of Amarante’s references. But its conventual sweets make the delights of those who visit it.
Located in the north of Portugal, less than an hour from Porto, Amarante is a place where nature, art, religion and gastronomy will enchant you. Amarante offers the romanticism of a tour in Tâmega in the Guigas (local boat). The church of São Gonçalo, patron saint of the city, is one of its most interesting monuments. In this church, as well as all over the city, it is possible to observe the marks of the French invasions that took place at the beginning of the 19th century.
“S. Gonçalo of Amarante
You perform so many miracles
That these sweets and pastries
Are another of your miracles”
What a better way to open your appetite for the famous conventual sweets? Come with us to Amarante!

Let´s cross the bridge, where during the 2nd French invasion, violent disputes were fought, to delight ourselves with the typical conventual sweets of the region, in one of the confectioneries that border the river Tâmega. Visit to Amadeu de Souza-Cardoso municipal museum.
