Morning: Uptown

  • After breakfast, the first door to open is the monastery of St. Augustine of the Serra do Pilar in Gaia. From there we can contemplate the Douro and the old historical town, Unesco's world heritage site. Crossing the D. Luís I bridge we enter the primitive borough of Oporto. Visit to the Fernandina wall, testimony of the medieval fence that surrounded the city.  The next door to be  open is the one of the Cathedral, a building dating back to the 12th century. Walking through the wide Terreiro da Sé, we can appreciate all the medieval urban mesh, made up of narrow and tortuous streets. On the other side of the Terreiro is the Episcopal Palace, a building largely remodeled in the 18th century.

Afternon: Downtown and cellars

  • We go down to downtown, and the first door to visit is S. Bento railway station, considered by Travel&Leisure magazine as one of the most beautiful and photographed in the world. Highlights include the decoration of its atrium with a set of tiles with themes related to the history of Portugal by Jorge Colaço. We proceeded to the Stock Exchange Palace, where the Courtyard of Nations and particularly the Arabic Hall stand out. We finish our visit in the Port wine cellars where we will taste and get to know the history of this generous wine.

Would you like to include a horse ride in your trip? A jet sky tour on the river? Enjoy a relaxing massage in contact with nature? And why not a romantic dinner? Or maybe learn how to dance the traditional minho dance - the vira?
