Travel with us through the wonders of Minho. Come to the thermal village of Vizela and get to know the city of Guimarães, the first capital of Portugal. Meanwhile come to a traditional cellar to taste and get to know better the nectar of this land, the green wine. Let´s discover Braga, its cathedral and streets. You can´t skip, the luxuriant beauty of the Peneda – Gerês national park, where you can see native plants, such as holly. We will take you to Ponte da Barca, at the foot of the Soajo and Amarela mountains. You can’t miss the visit to Ponte de Lima the oldest village in Portugal. Day 1: Oporto – Vizela - Guimarães – Penha - Braga
- After breakfast (8:30h) departure from Porto to Vizela, a thermal village where we will discover the "bolinhol", a regional sweet that you won't forget! A thin white layer of sugar on the moist dough... delicious! After a brief walk in the thermal gardens, we travel to the towering medieval castle of Guimarães built in the 10th century by Countess Mumadona Dias and expanded in the 12th century when Portucalense County was founded. Visit to the castle and church of São Miguel where Dom Afonso Henriques was baptized. Visit to the majestic palace of the Dukes of Bragança.
- After visiting the palace, have lunch and enjoy the Portuguese cuisine including the famous "vinho verde" (green wine).
- Walking tour through the secular streets of Guimarães all the way to Oliveira square, where you can visit the church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira and photograph the Salado gothic front porch. Afterwards, we travel to a farm dedicated to the production of green wines of renowned quality. Visit to the vineyards and the winery where we will taste some wines. The next stop is the mountain of Penha where we will visit the sanctuary and enjoy the magnificent landscapes that the various belvederes provide. Return to Guimarães in a modern cable car. Before leaving to Braga (arrival at 19:00), be delighted with traditional vimaranense pastry. 4 * accommodation in Braga (B&B).
Day 2: Braga – Bom Jesus – Peneda-Gerês national park – Ponte da Barca – Ponte de Lima
- After breakfast (8.30h) walk through Braga historical center and visit the city's ex-libris, the Cathedral, whose construction dates back to the 11th century. Walk to the Raio Palace, a baroque building that houses a rich collection of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Braga. In front of the Raio palace is the intriguing Idol fountain, a vestige of the presence of the Romans in Braga. On the way to the center of the city, where the Arcade is located - a beautiful building with 19 arches that houses two of the oldest cafés in the city - surprise yourself with one of the most beautiful theaters in the country, the Theatro-Circo.
- We leave to Bom Jesus do Monte where we will visit the sanctuary and enjoy the magnificent landscapes that the various belvederes provide. We continue towards the Peneda-Gerês National Park, where the boulders, the exuberant vegetation and the watercourses, which sometimes run fast, tumbling into waterfalls, other times fall asleep in the tranquil lagoons, form a set of unforgettable beauty. We will have lunch and continue to visit Peneda-Gerês NP in the afternoon, passing through Campo do Gerês, the Vilarinho da Furna dam, fed by Homem river, the village of Brufe, one of those places that deserves to be discovered and the typical mountain village of Germil.
- We said goodbye to the national park near the village of Ponte da Barca, where we will stop for a snack and to enjoy its regional pastries and its medieval bridge over the Lima river. Arrival to Ponte de Lima near 19:00. 4 * hotel accommodation (B&B).
Day 3: Ponte de Lima – Viana do Castelo – Barcelos – Oporto
- We will wake up in the oldest village in Portugal, with "Carta de Foral" since 1125. After breakfast (9:00 a.m.) we will visit its beautifully well-preserved historical center and cross the Roman bridge that gave the village its name.
- Departure to Viana do Castelo, towards the sanctuary of Santa Luzia. The breathtaking panorama of the city, the entire coastal area and the Lima valley led National Geographic to classify it as one of the 10 most beautiful landscapes in the world. We go down to the city to visit the streets and alleys of its historic center, the 16th century former city hall building, the house and church of Misericórdia and the Cathedral. Have lunch with the delicious flavours of Minho. We will not leave Viana without wandering in its splendid riverside area and have a look at the modern municipal library designed by architect Siza Vieira and the metallic bridge that joins the two banks of the Lima river, built by Gustave Eiffel.
- We leave Viana on the way to Barcelos where you can visit several local handicraft houses, where the Barcelos rooster is king. We will walk through the Feira field, the Barrocas garden and the Direita street until we reach the beautiful medieval bridge. We will visit the church of Nossa Senhora do Terço. In this church we can admire a lush gilded pulpit and the walls covered with magnificent tiles. Before leaving to Porto we will have a snack to taste Barcelos cheesecake or any other regional pastries. Drop-off at the hotel.
